Universal Orlando confirms Harry Potter expansion
Diagon Alley, 'London' to open in 2014
Universal Orlando has confirmed the expansion of The Wizarding World of Harry Potter on Wednesday after months of speculation from parkgoers.
Diagon Alley will be added to Universal Studios, stretching the Harry Potter attraction across both parks. Diagon Alley and ‘London’ will be located adjacent to Universal’s Islands of Adventure theme park, where guests now experience Hogwarts and Hogsmeade.
Parkgoers will be able to travel between the two parks from King's Cross station in London to Hogsmeade, aboard the Hogwarts Express with the Park-to-Park ticket.
The expansion is scheduled to open in 2014 and will be the world's first centrally themed, multi-park experience, according to a post on Universal Orlando's Facebook.
Universal officials said the new area will be "just as expansive, immersive and authentic as the existing themed environment."
"I'm so pleased that The Wizarding World of Harry Potter has proved so popular to date, and I'm sure that the attention to detail in creating the new Diagon Alley area will make this an even better experience," said J.K. Rowling.
Local 6 first reported the construction was rumored to be for Harry Potter world at Universal last month.
California gave Universal permission last month to build the "Wizarding World of Harry Potter" in Hollywood, but officials say they don't expect that park to affect attendance at the Orlando park.
