City commissioner embarrassed by 'shameful' act of vandalism

Vandals target volunteers' cars

ORLANDO, Fla. – Orlando City Commissioner Regina Hill used her Facebook page to call for action after a group of volunteers' cars were vandalized over the weekend.

Orlando police confirm that at least five vehicles were broken into Sunday afternoon in the Carver Shores neighborhood. Police said the culprits have not been identified. It's not known if anything was taken from the cars.

In Commissioner Hill's post, which included pictures of the broken windows, she called the vandalism sad and shameful, asking anyone who knows the vandals to contact her office.

In less than 24 hours, the post had more than 1,000 likes, along with hundreds of shares and comments.

A resident using the bike path nearby the broken glass from one of the car windows told News 6 that the area has seen its share of break-ins and burglaries.

"We're coming upon the summertime right now, and there's going to be more break-ins because the kids don't have anything to look forward to," Marilyn Hightower said.
