Car submerges into pond near World Drive

A 22-year-old man and a 19-year-old woman were rescued Tuesday from a vehicle that crashed into a retention pond along Interstate 4 near Disney World, officials said.

The Florida Highway Patrol said Lovpnsky Exilas and Gloria King, both of Orlando, were in critical but stable condition at area hospitals.

Troopers said Exilas was driving a four-door Chrysler on the I-4 exit ramp to World Drive when the vehicle left the road and went into the water.

The car was completely submerged when rescuers pulled the pair from the vehicle, officials said.

Exilas was taken to Osceola Regional Hospital and King was taken to Celebration Health.

The crash shut down the ramp onto SR 417, but it later reopened.
