Victim of body found in Intracoastal Waterway identified

Passerby discovers body near New Smyrna Beach

NEW SMYRNA BEACH, Fla. – The body of a woman that was found floating Monday in the Intracoastal Waterway near New Smyrna Beach has been identified as Carol Wilder, 70.

According to the Volusia County Sheriff's Office, a passerby discovered the body around noon near the back of a home in the 6300 block of River Road, not far from where Wilder lived.

Officials said Wilder was last seen alive on Friday.

Deputies and paramedics arrived at the scene and confirmed the death at 12:51 p.m., officials said.

Officials said The Volusia County Medical Examiner's Office received Wilder's body and will conduct an autopsy to determine the cause of death.

No other details were released, and an investigation is ongoing.
