ORLANDO, Fla. -

An Orlando man has been charged with driving under the influence after police say he ran a red light, drove through barricades in downtown Orlando and almost hit three officers mounted on a horse.

Police said Joseph Boyer, 22, drove through the red light on Washington Street and into the blocked off area of Court Avenue early Sunday morning, almost hitting pedestrians and the officers working in downtown Orlando.

When police approached Boyer, he appeared drunk and failed several field sobriety tests. At the DUI center a breathalyzer test revealed his blood alcohol content level was 0.178.

He was jailed on $500 bond.

Police said the incident "illustrates the dangers faced by officers every day during their tour of duty."
