James David Gray was arrested on DUI charges Wednesday afternoon after deputies spotted him driving a red lawn mower southbound in northbound lanes of Northeast 30th Court in Marion County.  Deputies said when they stopped Gray, his eyes were bloodshot, his speech was slurred and there was a cold beer open in a cup holder on the lawn mower.

"The reason I'm driving the lawnmower and going out working is to try to make a supplement for my income," Gray told the deputy in the video.

Gray, who said is recovering from a drinking problem, decided to buy an 18-pack of Natural Ice beer on his way home from cutting grass because he was depressed from monetary problems and it was hot outside, according to deputies.

In the video, a deputy asks Gray to perform several sobriety tests.

"I had brain surgery and my equilibrium is off-balance on account of that," Gray told the deputy in the video.

When asked what level of education he has, Gray responded, "DEG."

Gray was arrested and taken to the Marion County Jail. As he was being arrested, Gray said, "Sir, would you please give me a break? Let me go home. I just live, not that street, the next street down there."

Gray had previously had his driver's license revoked in 1985 for drunken driving. He is being held on no bond because he was on probation for another DUI when he was arrested on Wednesday.
