Coast Guard sends helicopter to help man suffering from medical issues

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. – The Coast Guard rushed to save a man suffering from medical issues aboard a cruise ship roughly 180 miles off the coast of Florida.

According to the Coast Guard, they received an alert Wednesday from the captain of the Carnival Cruise Paradise about the 66-year-old's condition.

Rescuers launched a Jayhawk helicopter from Clearwater to retrieve the man nearly 180 miles southwest of Marco Island.

The aircrew was able to find the ship and transport the man to Tampa General Hospital for further care.  His condition was not released.
