Video shows man punching 8-year-old, taking his iPad

Chef chases, catches suspected thief

MINNEAPOLIS – New surveillance video shows the moment when a man punched and tackled an 8-year-old boy in order to steal his iPad.

Police in Minneapolis say the boy was leaving day care with his aunt on March 6 when Aaron Stillday approached the chlid.

Officers say the video shows Stillday simulataneously punching and tackling the boy. Police say Stillday picked up the boy's iPad after he dropped it and ran away.

However, Mohammad Armeli, a chef at restaurant in the area, heard the commotion and saw Stillday running by with the iPad. Armeli says when he saw the boy on the ground, he ran after Stillday.

"You just don't hit a child," Armeli told KARE-TV. "He punched a child so hard, he might have broken his nose."

Armeli told WCCO-TV he chased after Armeli for a half-mile before pinning him against a wall. He held down Stillday until police arrived.

"This is the scum of the Earth," Armeli told WCCO-TV. "You cannot hit a child like that. Don't hit him for his iPad or for anything."

"I would do it over and over again," Armeli told KARE-TV. "I was just not going to allow anybody to hit a child."
