ORLANDO, Fla. - Video released Wednesday by the Florida Highway Patrol shows a trooper performing a PIT maneuver on a suspected drunken driver's car on the Turnpike, causing the vehicle to rollover.
Johnny Lee Fisher, 25, of Kissimmee, was arrested early Monday on numerous charges, including DUI and fleeing police with disregard of safety to persons or property.
According to an FHP report, Fisher was swerving across the Turnpike near mile marker 259 late Sunday when a trooper attempted to pull him over.
Fisher failed to comply, however, and sped off, nearly striking another vehicle, troopers said.
The FHP said it was determined a Precision Immobilization Technique (PIT) maneuver should be conducted, and a trooper struck the rear of Fisher's car, which rolled over. A PIT maneuver is a agency-approved method
Fisher reeked of alcohol and marijuana, according to the FHP, which took him into custody and arrested him after he was taken to a hospital. Fisher complained of back pain but wasn't seriously injured, troopers said.
According to the FHP, a bag of marijuana was found in Fisher's car and he told troopers he had started drinking around 1 p.m. at a friend's house.
Fisher said he didn't stop because he was trying to get home, the FHP said.
Fisher was later booked into the Orange County Jail.
