Deputies said the owner heard a noise outside of the West Crane Services on Newport Avenue and saw Stewart loading metal spreader bars into a pickup truck.

He held Stewart, who said he was a self-employed handyman and was supplementing his slow business with scrapping metal, at gunpoint until authorities arrived, according to the release.

Deputies say that according to transaction records, Stewart has scrapped nearly a ton of metal at local dealers in the past month.

After deputies took Stewart into custody, a search of his truck turned up seven prescription muscle relaxers, but no prescription to go with them, according to VCSO.

Stewart was booked into Volusia County jail.
