Volusia County boy recovering after being kicked in head by horse

Boy in stable condition, officials say

OAK HILL, Fla. – A 5-year-old boy is recovering on Friday after Volusia County deputies say he was kicked in the head by a horse Thursday afternoon.

Deputies said the mother of the child called authorities after her son was kicked in the head while she was caring for her horse at a stable in Oak Hill Thursday just after noon. The woman said her son walked behind the horse.

The boy was taken to Halifax Medical Center and immediately rushed into surgery. Deputies said the child had a horse shoe impression on his head and bleeding in his brain. The boy is now in stable condition.

No other witnesses were present and the mother was too distraught to give a witness statement, according to deputies.
