Volusia County to vote on 'no pass, no play' policy

Proposed changes would relax requirements for athletes

VOLUSIA COUNTY, Fla. – School officials in Volusia County will vote Tuesday to make changes to a controversial academic policy that impacts student-athletes.

The "no pass, no play" policy states that any student failing a core course will be prohibited from participating in sporting contests for at least one grading period.

According to The Daytona Beach News Journal, the school board will vote March 15 whether to relax the eligibility requirements.

Under the proposed change, athletes would be allowed to fail a class, as long as they continue to uphold a 2.0 GPA.
