Volusia mom of 3 opens clinic to remove lice from children

Amy Dvorak starts business in Port Orange

PORT ORANGE, Fla. – A mother of three said she was so stressed out dealing with the lice situation at home, she didn't want other parents to suffer as well and opened up her own lice clinic.

"It is definitely a stress on parents," said Amy Dvorak, owner of Lice E.R. "I have three daughters that all ended up with head lice, and the stress that I went through was crazy."

In January, Dvorak got certified in the Shepherd method of Strand-By-Strand nit and lice removal and then opened up her own business called Lice E.R.

"I wanted to offer something here in town that would be an option for parents to ease the stress," she said.

The clinic and awareness center has been open since Tuesday.

"We've had a big response. We've had treatment calls already. We've had some calls from schools," said Dvorak.

Tiffany Kuzma was one of those calls.

"They never seem to go away," said Kuzma.

Kuzma said her three daughters got lice and after spending tons of money and time on products, she was thrilled to hear about the clinic.

"I was thinking, 'Yup, this is something that we need around here because everybody has it,'" she said.

Dvorak said the clinic offers a full-service treatment, which includes two follow-up treatments. She also sells products if parents want to do it at home.

"We can also coach you on how to go about tackling it yourself," said Dvorak.

However, she said treating head lice and educating parents and schools about it, is her mission.

"I think it's really important just to help the children be at ease, to stop the itching, get them back in school, so they can learn," said Dvorak.

Dvorak said the process takes about two to three hours depending on the length of hair. It's by appointment only.
