OAK HILL, Fla. -

An Oak Hill woman was charged with armed robbery and assault Thursday afternoon after deputies say she attacked another woman with a knife in a hardware store.

The 49-year-old victim told deputies she was alone in Anchor Hardware & Storage on U.S. Highway 1 when a woman wearing white shorts, a red polka-dotted shirt and pantyhose on her head grabbed her from behind, held her at knifepoint and demanded money.

"I thought it was a joke at first," the store owner told deputies. "I honestly really thought it was somebody pulling a joke on me, because it was so ridiculous."

Volusia County Sheriff's deputies arrested Virginia Wilkinson,54, at her home two miles away from the store after a witness supplied them with the license plate number from Wilkinson's getaway van.

Deputies said Wilkinson was distracted by a customer walking into the store whom she threatened with a knife and chased around the parking lot before fleeing. She got away with no money from the store.

When deputies caught up with Wilkinson at her home, she told them she robbed the store and that she is a recovering drug user who had relapsed that day.

Wilkinson was charged with armed robbery and two counts of aggravated assault with a weapon. She was arrested and booked into the Volusia County Branch Jail in Daytona Beach.
