Water main breaks impact thousands across Brevard

Crews work to repair county-wide problem

COCOA, Fla. – Water pressure has been restored to 80,000 Cocoa Water Department customers, including businesses and schools from Viera to Cape Canaveral after five water main breaks struck the system.

"The crews are out in the field and addressing the problem. It's not unusual, it's just a water main break. It just so happens that they all happened at the same time," Cathy Carter, a spokeswoman for the Cocoa Water Department, said Thursday morning.  "No one is out of water. The water is safe to drink."

Carter reported that there are no boil-water notices associated with the incident.

The utility department provides water to about customers in 10 communities, including Kennedy Space Center, north Melbourne, Merritt Island and portions of the beachside, Local 6 News partner Florida Today reported.

One of the water main breaks was reported on Victor Road.
