Watermelons destroyed in train crash in Sumter County

Big rig becomes stuck on railroad tracks

SUMTER COUNTY, Fla. – A train crashed into a tractor-trailer Wednesday in Sumter County, destroying the big rig's load of watermelon, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

The crash happened around 6:45 p.m. at County Road 104 and U.S. Highway 301.

According to the FHP, the big rig, driven by 45-year-old Vincent Tran, became disabled on the train tracks and was struck by the train.

No one was injured.

The trailer and its load of watermelon were completely destroyed in the crash, troopers said.
