Wayne Ivey will face Adrian Moss-Beasley in Brevard sheriff race

Lake County Sheriff Gary Borders wins over Sandy Carpenter

MERRITT ISLAND, Fla. – Wayne Ivey will likely be the Republican candidate for Brevard County sheriff on the November ballot.

Ivey, 50, faced sheriff's office veteran Todd Maddox for the Republican nod. With 89 percent of votes reported, Ivey led with 56 percent to Maddox's 44 percent, Local 6 News partner Florida Today reported.

Ivey is a 31-year law enforcement veteran who most recently worked as resident agent in charge of Florida Department of Law Enforcement operations in Volusia and Brevard counties. He got his start in corrections in Clay County and began as an agent with FDLE in 1993.

Ivey will face Democrat Adrian Moss-Beasley, a sheriff's deputy, in November.

Meanwhile, in Lake County, Sheriff Gary Borders was re-elected with 67 percent of the votes over Sandy Carpenter. Borders' win comes after a controversial shooting of a man in Lake County by deputies. Borders has said his deputies were following policy and weren't in the wrong.
