Truck goes airborne to end wild chase

WEBSTER PARISH, La. – The only thing missing from the end of a wild police chase in Louisiana Tuesday was Bo and Luke Duke.

In a scene usually found in an old episode of the iconic 70's show "Dukes of Hazard," the chase came to a dramatic end when the truck went airborne and landed on a car.

KSLA reports the truck was driven by Kevonte Dekorey Austin, 18, who had escaped from a work-release program near Webster Parish.

The chase began after the truck Austin was a passenger in was pulled over for speeding. While the deputy was speaking to the driver outside the vehicle, Austin slid over to driver's seat and drove away.

During the chase, Austin reached speeds of 115 miles per hour.

It ended after the truck ran over spike strips placed in road, causing Austin to lose control of the vehicle and send it flying into the parking lot of a restaurant.

The truck landed on a car in the parking lot with a passenger inside.  The passenger was unhurt, but had to exit her vehicle from the passenger door.

Austin was soon taken into custody.
