Homeowners watched wind toss metal through the air, cartwheel down the street, and smack into houses and cars after a strong storm whipped through a local neighborhood.
"Just sitting watching TV and just head this big roar," said David Combs, whose roof along Palm Drive in Winter Garden was ripped away by fierce winds. "I could hear the aluminum flap up and down. I come out, looked and saw part of my roof over across the street."
Nearly 20 feet of metal tore off his roof and landed two trailers away after crashing into a neighbor's home and knocking a divot in her roof.
When she heard the sound of twisting metal ripping off a roof, that's when Joan Hadley knew she was in for some damage.
"This all was blowing around and I thought it was off of ours, and I was real worried," said Hadley. "I was just standing there, looking out the window scared to death and our dog, my sister has a big lab, he was in the bathtub."
Inspectors will come out again Friday to review the damage, said neighbors.
Neighbors plan to have a trailer come out to pick up the large pieces of scrap metal. They'll take them to a scrap yard and any proceeds will be donated to the man who's home is missing a roof.
