Winter Haven mom shoots, kills daughter, says it was accident
Woman tells police she thought daughter knocking at door was boyfriend
A Winter Haven woman was arrested on Monday after shooting her daughter while she was holding her 4-month-old child.
Adele Bing, 52, told police that she had been in a physical altercation with her boyfriend earlier during the day when she heard banging and kicking at the front door. Believing it to be her boyfriend returning to harm her, Bing armed herself with a baseball bat and a 22-caliber handgun.
Bing told police that she was opening the door when the gun discharged, shooting her daughter in the chest and killing her. The daughter was holding her 4-month-old child who fell to the ground but was uninjured, according to police reports.
Witnesses told police that they saw Bing cradling her dying daughter in her arms, slapping her and screaming her name.
Bing was charged with second-degree murder and child abuse without great bodily harm.
Bing expressed remorse in her statement to police, saying "How could I look my grandkids in their face and say I killed their mother? Y'all can lock me away for good."
