Winter Park addressing parking problems near Park Avenue

Consultants gathered feedback from residents, business owners

WINTER PARK, Fla. – With projected growth over the next several years, the city of Winter Park is addressing parking issues in the area surrounding Park Avenue

At a parking summit early Thursday, consultants hired by the city gathered feedback from residents and business owners.

"I'm trying to learn more about it and to find a good solution because there seems to be a concern about it," resident Peg Cornwell said.

Most people familiar with downtown know parking spaces are hard to come by on weekends and certain times during the week.  City officials said they're looking at several possible solutions to the issue.

"In order to develop a good parking strategy for not just five years or 10 years or 20 tyears, everything has to be on the table," Communications Director Clarissa Howard said.

Possible strategies discussed Thursday included increased enforcement and using new technology, but if it comes down to it, paid parking or additional spaces could be in the future.

"There [are] parking spaces here, and we're hoping to better communicate where they are and how to use them," Howard said.

Following the summit, consultants with Kimley-Horn will analyze the input gathered from attendees and present recommendations for parking solutions at a meeting in August.
