Teen saves Aloma Bowl in Winter Park -- for now

Plans called for home improvement store to be built on site

WINTER PARK, Fla. – A local high school student who has been fighting to keep a Winter Park bowling alley from closing got a big win Monday night.

Winter Park city commissioners voted against plans to turn Aloma Bowl into a two-story hardware store.

The bowling alley has been a staple in Winter Park since 1977.

Danielle Allison, 15, had been fighting to keep Aloma Bowl open, in part for her bowling team at Winter Park High School.

Allison said the closest bowling alley is too far for some students on the team.

The teen collected more than 2,300 signatures online and from people in the community to save the facility.

The next step in the process is not known.
