Winter Park cracks down on DUI checkpoints for Halloween

WINTER PARK, Fla. -

With Halloween right around the corner, Winter Park Police Department issued a warning that officers will be out between Oct. 25 and Nov. 1 cracking down on impaired drivers, according to a news release.

Warning Central Floridians to "keep the part off the road," the Winter Park Police, along with many other local law enforcement agencies, are making sure drivers know even a costume or mask cannot hide if someone is driving drunk.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, 41 percent of all highway fatalities throughout the nation during the Halloween period in 2010 (6 p.m. Oct. 29 to 5:59 a.m. Nov. 1) involved a driver or a motorcycle rider with a blood alcohol concentration of .08 grams per deciliter or higher.

During the Halloween week, Winter Park Police Department will be out within Orange County looking for alcohol and drug impaired drivers, so to keep safe this Halloween, the Winter Park Police Department put out a list of tips to make sure you still have a fun but safe Halloween week:
