Park Plaza Gardens restaurant in Winter Park is closed due to health violations.

WINTER PARK, Fla. – A Winter Park restaurant considered a landmark by many was abruptly closed Tuesday because of health violations while diners were eating lunch.

Park Plaza Gardens, located at 319 Park Avenue, was shuttered by health officials after an inspection.  A sticker saying, "This establishment is closed to protect public health and safety" was posted on the front door by the Department of Business and Professional Regulation.

Inspectors say they found both live and dead roaches inside, including a roach that was eating a french fry on the floor. Inspectors also say they found rodent droppings and found some employees weren't following proper safety procedures for handling food.

Restaurant workers told Local 6 Tuesday night they were back open for business after fixing all of the issues.

According to Park Plaza Garden's website, the restaurant has been serving Winter Park for decades.

"For 30 years we have been setting the standard for exceptional food and service here in Winter Park…and we look forward to continuing this tradition for 30 more!" the website states.
