Woman, 76 dies, husband critically hurt in Marion County motorcycle crash

MARION COUNTY, Fla. - A 76-year-old woman was killed and her husband was critically injured in a motorcycle crash in Marion County, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

According to Florida Highway Patrol, Allan Freeland, 78, and Mary Freeland, 76, of Illinois, were traveling southbound on I-75 when a large piece of tire debris on the roadway caused the driver to lose control.

The motorcycle, which was towing a trailer, overturned onto its left side and ejected both occupants, troopers said.

The wife was pronounced dead at Shands Hospital at the University of Florida, according to the FHP.  Her husband remains in critical condition, the FHP said on Monday.
