Woman attacked by 3 pit bulls in Palm Bay driveway

Marche McCubbin, 53, in serious condition

PALM BAY, Fla. – A woman was attacked by three pit bulls Tuesday night in her driveway, according to Palm Bay police.

The attack happened around 5:30 p.m. at a home on Southeast Hainlin Avenue.

Police told Local 6 the victim, Marche McCubbin, 53, was in serious but stable condition.

Investigators said the dogs belonged to her neighbor and are now in quarantine at the South Brevard County Animal Shelter.

"I'm not going to lie, I was scared, but you can't sit there and let that happen," said neighbor Daniel Madden, who grabbed a shovel and rushed to the woman's aide.

Madden tried to ward off the dogs after he witnessed the attack. He said the victim was trying to return home from an evening stroll when she was surrounded by the pack of dogs in her own driveway.

"She took her flip flops off, trying to shoo them away. As she did that, the big one came up behind her and grabbed on to her, pulled her down to the ground. The other two jumped right on her and started mauling her," said Madden.

Firefighters and paramedics rushed to the scene and found McCubbin suffering from multiple bite wounds.

"She got pretty tore up," said Madden. "The back of her neck was mauled up pretty good. It almost looked like her arm was broken. It was bleeding profusely."

As the dog's owners helped officers load up the animals, Madden said this didn't have to happen.

"It was inevitable. I have numerous calls into animal control because of all the kids on the street and I told them, 'A pack of dogs running like that, it's inevitable,' and it happened," said Madden.

Brevard County Animal Services have launched an investigation and will determine what will happen with the dogs and if the owner will face any penalties.
