Woman conned into giving up jewelry

ORMOND BEACH, Fla. – Police are investigating after a woman was conned into giving up her jewelry for an alleged "appraisal."

Police said two people approached an elderly woman in the Walmart parking lot at 1521 West Granada Blvd. in Ormond Beach on Feb. 28 and convinced the woman to give up her jewelry to them so that they could have it appraised.

The two showed the woman a bag that had money and bonds and they agreed to share the money in the bag with the woman if she allowed them to have her jewelry appraised inside Walmart. They victim also gave the subjects $30 to help with the appraisal, police said.

After the two subjects returned, they told the elderly woman to go inside to the jewelry counter, where a Mr. Goldstein would return her jewelry and money.

After going into the store to retrieve her jewelry and money, the woman was told by a Walmart employee that they knew nothing of her jewelry and that no one with the last name Goldstein was employed there.

One of the subjects was described as a black female, 40-50 years old, wearing a green dress.

The other subject is described as a black male, 40-50 years old, wearing a gray jacket and cap.
