OCALA, Fla. – A 23-year-old woman was arrested in Ocala after, according to police, she was found asleep in a van at a gas station with K-2 on her lap while her 1-year-old daughter was in the back seat.

Philomena Melton was arrested early Thursday on charges of child neglect and possession of synthetic drugs.

According to police, a worker at the Kangaroo Express at 3873 SW College Road in Ocala saw a woman, later identified as Melton, asleep in a purple minivan with a child inside the vehicle.  She said tried to wake the woman, but she fell right back asleep, according to police.

Police were called and found Melton and a plastic bag containing a green leafy substance and an open cigar wrapper in her lap.  The officer said he tried to wake Melton, which took several minutes, before she awoke and immediately grabbed the baggie and cigar wrapper and tried to put them in her purse, the report stated.

Police said the substance tested positive for K-2.

According to a police report, Melton told officials that she didn't know how long she was asleep.  She also said that she had smoked synthetic marijuana earlier in the day, police said.

Melton was booked into the Marion County Jail.

The girl was placed into the custody of her father, police said.
