ORLANDO, Fla. - Orange County deputies have identified the woman on Friday they say was killed in an apparent murder-suicide in an otherwise quiet neighborhood Thursday.
Deputies said they found the bodies of a man and a woman, identified as Patricia Hill Kilgast in a garage at 4030 Evander Drive after the shooter's relative reported the murder to 911 and the shooter's threats of suicide.
Deputies have not released the name of the shooter, but said at least one was the primary resident at the home.
The call to authorities came at around 4 p.m. and within minutes, deputies with guns drawn swarmed the neighborhood and evacuated two nearby homes. Other neighbors were forced to stay inside, and watched the drama unfold from their windows.
Local 6 news helicopter Sky 6 flew over the scene as units blocked off the area around the home.
Frantic mothers like Lynn Romano stood helpless from outside the police crime tape. Her mother was babysitting her son when her mom called to say deputies had surrounded the house across the street.
"It's really killing me not being able to get to him. My minds going crazy right now," said Romano. "I don't know if anybody's going to come outside, start shooting. I don't want any stray bullets to hit them -- my mom or my son."
As deputies swarmed the Gatlin Gardens neighborhood, negotiating with a murderer by phone, and he agreed to come out. Suddenly, the phone went silent and then came a single gunshot. Deputies rushed in and found a man and Kilgast dead in the garage.
"The scene, from what deputies tell me, is a pretty gruesome scene," said Orange County Sheriff's spokesman Jeff Williamson.
Several neighbors said they heard three gunshots around 7:30 p.m. Wednesday. However, nobody reported the gunshots.
A full day went by before deputies discovered the woman was dead inside the garage.
Neighbors said the people who lived in the home seemed happy.
"I know they were big UCF fans, they loved their football," said Romano, who often invited them over for holidays and neighborhood events. "They seemed perfectly happy, but you never know."
