Man shoots girlfriend after fight over child not eating dinner, deputies say

GROVELAND, Fla. – A Groveland man shot his girlfriend after an argument over a child not eating his dinner, according to the Lake County Sheriff’s Office.

Stephen Collins was eating dinner with his girlfriend Amberlee Price around 5 p.m. Monday when the argument began. Collins told Price and the boy to get out of the house, so she took the child and attempted to leave in a pickup truck, deputies said.

Collins grabbed a gun from somewhere in the home and fired into the vehicle, according to a news release. Price, 32, was shot several times. The child, who was sitting next to her, was not injured.

Deputies said Collins walked toward them with his hands up when they arrived at the home at 13942 Mascotte Empire Road in Groveland at about 5:30 p.m. He was arrested at the scene.

Price was flown to Orlando Regional Medical Center in critical condition.

Collins is charged with attempted murder. Additional charges are pending.
