Woman in critical condition after losing arm in gator attack

84-year-old Carol Hough attacked in Leesburg canal

ORLANDO, Fla. – An 84-year-old Leesburg woman who lost her right arm in an alligator attack remains in critical condition, according to officials.

Carol Hough was attacked Wednesday morning in the Helena Run Canal near Hubbard Street at the Cypress Creek Mobile Home Park.

She was airlifted to Orlando Regional Medical Center, and Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission spokeswoman Joy Hill said on Thursday that Hough is in critical condition.

Meanwhile, Hill said the gator involved in the attack was captured and killed, although no human body parts were found in the alligator's stomach.

Hill said the 7-foot-5-inch alligator was the same size they were looking for, and it had no fear of humans.

Hough lost her right arm between the elbow and shoulder.

It's not clear why Hough was in the water, and a neighbor rescued her and called 911.

Experts tell Local 6 the time of year influences alligator's attitude.
