DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. -

Daytona Beach police called off an extensive search of the Halifax River after it was learned that a woman who jumped into the water to escape her boyfriend was located at a shelter.

According to Daytona Beach police, two transients said they were awakened Wednesday by a man and woman arguing when she jumped into the river near the Seabreeze Bridge.

The witnesses said they did not see the woman resurface, and a search involving police, deputies and the Coast Guard was launched.

Daytona Beach police spokesman Jimmy Flynt said the woman swam across the river and went to a homeless coalition.

No other details have been released.
