Woman lying in bed injured when stolen car crashes into Orlando home

Teen without license accused of crashing stolen car

ORLANDO, Fla. – A 50-year-old woman was injured Tuesday night when a stolen car crashed into her Orlando home while she was lying in bed, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

A 16-year-old was arrested on charges of driving without a license, fleeing and eluding an officer, leaving the scene of a crash, running a stop sign and not wearing a seat belt.  A passenger fled the scene and has not been located.

According to the FHP, a 2007 Chrysler 300 stolen from a U-Haul on Colonial Drive crashed into a Tymber Skan apartment, knocking out power to several homes.

Just before 8 p.m. Tuesday, a trooper tried pulling the car over for running a stop sign, authorities said.

Troopers said the teen driver acted like he was going to stop, but then sped off on Texas Avenue.  The car went through a pole, broke a water main and crashed into the apartment, authorities said.

"(A law enforcement officer) heard the crash and saw the power box explode from the power line down, called it in, as he got up to the scene, he noticed two males fleeing from the vehicle," said FHP Sgt. Kim Montes.

The woman was taken to Florida Hospital South with minor injuries. The driver was taken to Arnold Palmer Hospital with serious injuries, the FHP said.
