Woman raped at gunpoint during home invasion, Orlando police say

Authorities say crime was random

ORLANDO, Fla. – A man broke into a home and raped a woman inside at gunpoint Thursday night in what authorities called a random attack, according to the Orlando Police Department.

The victim was at home in bed around 10 p.m. when she noticed an unknown man, later identified as 20-year-old Patrick Gray, in her room rummaging through her belongings, the affidavit said. When the woman confronted Gray, he pointed his gun at her and demanded to know where she kept her valuables, according to the report.

Gray removed, then reinserted the magazine from the .45-caliber Glock to prove that it was loaded, police said.

Authorities said Gray continued going through the victim's belongings, then raped her.

After the sex attack, the victim became concerned that Gray would attack another person who was inside the home, so she told the suspect that they should go to her bank so she could withdraw money to give him, according to the affidavit.

By that point, someone in the house had called 911, so officers had the home surrounded when Gray tried to back out of the garage in the victim's SUV, police said.

Gray dropped the gun, which had been reported stolen out of Polk County, then ran back into the home and out the back door, according to the report. He was found at a 7-Eleven on Hiawassee Road, officials said.

Police said the victim was hysterical in the passenger's seat of the SUV and the other person who was inside the home during the attack was still there when officers arrived.

Gray was charged with sexual battery with a deadly weapon, home invasion robbery, aggravated assault with a firearm, grand theft in the third degree with a firearm, false imprisonment, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and resisting an officer without violence.
