A babysitter bonded out of jail Thursday after being arrested on suspicion of leaving two young children in her hot car while she visited a man in the Orange County Jail.
Geneva Little, 30, is facing child neglect charges after she allegedly left two boys, ages 4 and 5, in her car on Wednesday.
Deputies said the incident happened outside the Orange County Jail Visitation Center, where Little was visiting the boys' father.
According to jail records, she logged in at the center at 6:13 p.m. It wasn't until some 29 minutes later that a jail employee spotted the children and called 911 at 6:42 p.m.
Officers said the outside temperature was 89 degrees. The young boys complained of being thirsty and hungry, but otherwise were OK.
"I'm out here for two seconds and I'm dying," said Jennifer Schottler, who lives next door to Little. "I have a 4-year-old and I know 4-year-olds, they don't like to sit still in anything."
Little was not home when Local 6 knocked on her door Thursday evening.
Neighbors like Emily Owens can't believe that Little was supposed to be babysitting at the time.
"I mean a babysitter, you know, you're supposed to take care of the kids and watch them," said Owens. "That's crazy, that's insane. Nobody should have to go through that, especially kids."
Deputies contacted the Department of Children Families. According to an arrest report, the boys' mother lives in Orange County.
