DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – A 19-year-old woman was robbed on the job while delivering Jimmy John's sandwiches, authorities said.
"It's very scary that people have the mind and capability to harm other people, you know, for nothing, for a couple of dollars," Veronica Rodriguez said.
Rodriguez said the robbery started out as a normal call for delivery, but things started to get strange when they started asking detailed questions and said they only had a $100 bill.
"We're rarely suppose to take $100, we're not even suppose to take $50s. It just sounded weird because they did ask me if I was the driver and they asked me if I could specifically take it," Rodriguez said.
Rodriguez said when she showed up to the address at a dead-end street, Matthew Camacho and Lucas Graupman were waiting for her.
"While I was waiting to receive the $100 bill, the other one walks around me, put me in a choke hold, pins me down, while the other one is macing my face," she said. "I was angry. They were going through my car, touching me, doing absolutely insane things."
Pinned to the ground, Rodriguez said the two told her not to move for 10 minutes, taking her stuff, the sandwiches and running off. That's when she said she ran to the closest house and told them to call 911.
Police said Camacho and Graupman were arrested within an hour after they tried to do the same thing to another delivery man. They said the men confessed to robbing Rodriguez.
Rodriguez was so shaken up she quit her job.
"I'm not going to risk my life for a $5 or $6 sandwich. It's just stupid," Rodriguez said. "I'm here. That's all that matters."
Rodriguez had only been working at Jimmy Johns for six months.
The suspects are being held at the Volusia County Jail on robbery charges.
