ORLANDO, Fla. – A woman was caught on camera Monday stealing money out of a tip box at a Brazilian restaurant.
Employees said the woman was sitting down looking at a menu when she got up, walked toward the register and took the cash right out.
Workers at Giraffas on International Drive said it happened so fast they didn't notice the money was missing until hours later.
"I was in the kitchen, making probably the prep or the dish, and then someone said, 'Hey, there's missing money here," said employee Guilharne Sartoralli.
One worker said the box is always open and that the money inside goes to the whole crew at the end of each day. But on Monday afternoon, there was nothing to go around.
"It's not because the money (is) for us, because it's nothing but the problem is that it could be 20 bucks, 30 bucks, but she could steal more," said employee Carlos Silba.
The owner told News 6 there was an employee helping customers near the front of the restaurant, but the woman just swiftly slid by him.
"I remember the girl because I looked at her and I said, 'Maybe she's going to ask for something,' but no, I'll be back soon," said another employee.
After what happened, the owner replaced the tip box with another one that has a lid.
Anyone with information about the theft or who may recognize the woman is asked to call police.
