Woman struck, killed by own car in driveway, troopers say

Victim identified as Marilyn Simpkins, 76

LAKE COUNTY, Fla. – A 76-year-old woman was killed Sunday afternoon, apparently when her own car struck her in a driveway at 45715 Magnolia St. state troopers said.

The Florida Highway Patrol said it believes the woman, identified as Marilyn Simpkins, had gotten out of her vehicle to close a gate before she was struck. The car was found placed in reverse and Simpkins was lying in the driveway.

Simpkins was taken to Florida Hospital DeLand, where she died.

The crash remains under investigation.
