Woman struck, killed in Apopka

Charges pending against teen driver, the FHP says

APOPKA, Fla. – A 38-year-old woman walking in Apopka was struck and killed by a vehicle driven by an 18-year-old man, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

The FHP said Kimberly Torrey, of Apopka, died in the fatal crash, which happened around 11 p.m. Wednesday on Plymouth Sorrento Road near Joey McGuckin Road.

Troopers said a GMC Sierra driven by Ronald Batemen, of Sorrento, was headed northbound when the vehicle hit Torrey, who was walking northbound on the east side of the road.

Torrey was thrown into a tree and trash cans and was pronounced dead at the scene, the FHP said.

Charges are pending against Bateman, the FHP said.
