Women in Central Florida sell positive pregnancy tests on Craigslist

Part of growing, nationwide trend of women offering tests

ORLANDO, Fla. – Some women in Central Florida are now putting their positive pregnancy tests up for sale on Craigslist.

It seems to be part of a growing, nationwide trend of women offering the tests to help play a joke on someone or worse, convince a man to get married under false pretenses.

Local 6 found positive pregnancy tests available for as little as $25 in Orlando and Melbourne.

The Orlando seller advertised "I'm pregnant... why not let others in on the fun! Want to play a prank on a friend? Baby shower gag gift?"

"I don't think you play jokes like that," said Deanna Williams, an Orlando mom who thinks selling the tests is a bad idea. "People are doing that sometimes to keep a relationship or to keep the man around thinking it will keep him around, that is crazy. This is getting out of control."

The Orlando seller agrees to provide one pregnancy test with no questions asked. She notes it won't be from the Dollar Store and that hers are the more pricey, EPT, First Response or Clearblue tests. She adds it's not her "business what you choose to use it for."

"First bikinis and now this," laughed Tom Dordevic, an Orlando father.

Dordevic doesn't have much sympathy for anyone who would fall for the scheme.

"I guess if it's done as a gag, I don't see anything wrong with it. I guess if it's done to get guys to propose to them, well then shame on the guy for not asking more questions," said Dordevic.

Local 6 reached out to the pregnancy test sellers in both Orlando and Melbourne. The Orlando seller wished to remain anonymous, while the seller in Melbourne said she just found out about the new trend while surfing the Internet and posted her first ad Tuesday night.

The woman said she is 38 weeks along and is having a high-risk pregnancy. As a result, she said she can't work right now and is hoping this will be a way to earn some extra cash before her baby arrives. So far, she has not had any buyers.
