INDIAN HARBOUR BEACH, Fla. – City workers on Monday are attempting to catch a shark that somehow ended up in a freshwater pond at a Brevard County park.
Indian Harbour Beach City Manager Mark Ryan said a bull shark, estimated to be about 4 feet long, was in a pond at Gleason Park near South Patrick Drive.
"Our public works department is attempting to net it," said Ryan, adding that the city has reached out to the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission for assistance.
Ryan said it was highly unlikely that the shark got into the pond by itself because there are grates on the drainage outflows to prevent alligators from getting in.
Officials want park visitors to be aware of the shark at the park, which features a playground and walking trail.
The pond has become quite the attraction.
"It's kind of exciting, I mean, it's not super big, so it's not super scary," said Melissa Calhoun, who works near the pond.
Ryan said it's not known how the shark got into the pond.
