World's tallest coaster closer to reality on I-Drive in Orlando

Developers buy land near future Skyplex site, reports say

ORLANDO, Fla. – A towering dream to bring the world's tallest roller coaster to Orlando's tourist district is a step closer to reality.

Local 6 reported on plans to bring an entertainment complex, Skyplex, to Orlando back in June. It will be located at International Drive and Sand Lake Road.

Developers said a 570-foot vertical coaster, which would be the tallest in the world, will be built on 12 acres around the complex. The ride will be known as "The Skyscraper."

According to the Orlando Business Journal, the developers recently spent more than $12 million buy a bowling alley near the development site.  It's expected to be torn down as part of work on Skyplex.

Officials said they plan to break ground in 2015 and the ride is scheduled to open in 2016.

The estimated budget to build the Skyplex is $200 million.
