A retired veteran and his family are still in shock this morning after a car slammed into their east Orange County home -- causing major damage.

Florida Highway Patrol troopers said the car hit the home on Lacerta Drive early Saturday morning.

"I heard that big old boom.  It sounded like a bomb went off. Then i ran downstairs because it shook the house and as i looked around I encountered this big huge gap here," said homeowner Carlos Ortiz-Vega.

The car hit a load bearing wall, investigators said.

A building inspector will determine if the family can stay in the home or if they'll have to move out while the damage is repaired.
