Stickers covering yearbook photos stir controversy

Oviedo middle school administrators deem some pictures 'inappropriate'

OVIEDO, Fla. – The yearbook at Jackson Heights Middle School in Oviedo is causing some controversy.

Scattered throughout the book were photos covered by stickers after administrators deemed them inappropriate. Some photos were of girls in half embraces, against “no PDA” rules. Others were covered because they violated school policies like dress code, or had crude sayings.

Parents and students thought the stickers were over the top.

"There was a chance to proof the yearbook," said parent Sean Newman. "The yearbook was signed off on. The kids worked hard on it, and then it came back and they went through this. So resources that shouldn't be spent for that purpose."

The Seminole County School District said the principal may have been overzealous in placing the stickers, but some situations were warranted.

The yearbooks were $40 if bought last-minute.
