SANFORD, Fla. – Dozens gathered in Sanford on Wednesday evening to celebrate George Zimmerman's arrest.
On the national day of prayer, ministers gathered at the Allen Chapel AME Church in Sanford to preach about the issues African-American men face, but most of the service was spent rejoicing.
Forty-four days after Trayvon Martin's death, his supporters said justice was served.
"This brother by the name of George Zimmerman has been captured and arrested and charged with second-degree murder. And that's a good thing, " said one minister.
"For every tear, every prayer, every march, every protest to God almighty, who knows when justice has been served," said Pastor Valerie Houston.
Houston said she cried and was overwhelmed with emotion when she heard Zimmerman had been charged with second-degree murder in the shooting death.
Houston said it's an ending to a long struggle and a step in the right direction for the future.
"It's still a numb feeling. A feeling of relief because, just like Sybrina Fulton, I am a mother," Cappila Gaines said.
Zimmerman was transported to the Seminole County jail late Wednesday.
He's expected in court on Thursday, where his attorney, Local 6 legal analyst Mark O'Mara, is expected to ask for bond.
