Carolina Hurricanes (2-4-2) At Colorado Avalanche (6-1-2), 9 P.M.

(Sports Network) - The Northwest Division-leading Colorado Avalanche are back at home for two games starting with Friday's bout with the Carolina Hurricanes from the Pepsi Center.

Colorado went 4-1-2 on a seven-game trek and saw its four-game winning streak come to an end with Wednesday's 3-2 shootout loss against Minnesota in the finale of the swing. Darcy Tucker and Kyle Quincey both lit the lamp for the Avalanche, who got 24 saves from goaltender Craig Anderson.

Anderson tied the team record for most starts in net to open a season with nine, matching Mario Gosselin from the 1987-88 Quebec Nordiques.

"We were all over them in the second period, really took over the game," Anderson said after the game. "Just a great effort by the guys to respond after the first (period)."

The Avs will also host the Detroit Red Wings on Saturday to complete their quick two-game residency.

Colorado forward Cody McLeod is questionable for Friday's game with a facial laceration. McLeod took a stick to the face on Quincey's goal in the second period against the Wild and did not return.

Meanwhile, the struggling Hurricanes will continue their four-game road trip and have dropped four in a row overall.

Carolina is coming off Wednesday's 4-3 shootout loss against the New York Islanders in Uniondale, as Matt Cullen, Eric Staal and Jussi Jokinen each lit the lamp in a losing effort. Joni Pitkanen contributed two assists and Cam Ward registered 26 saves in defeat.

Ray Whitney had an assist in the loss and became the fourth player in franchise history to play his 1,000th NHL game with the team, joining Rod Brind'Amour, Glen Wesley and Brian Propp.

The 'Canes, who have lost six of eight games to start the season, will also visit Minnesota on their current trek. Carolina defenseman Tim Gleason (upper body) is listed as questionable for Friday.

Carolina posted a 5-2 victory over Colorado last season in the only matchup between the teams on February 22, 2009 thanks to Cullen's first career hat trick. The victory snapped a 15-game series winless streak. Colorado is 12-1-3 in the last 16 meetings with the Hurricanes.

The Carolina/Hartford franchise is winless (0-6-2) in its previous eight trips to Denver.
