Search party at OIA to look for runaway service dog

$2,000 reward offered for Scarlet's return

ORLANDO, Fla. – A search party assembled Friday at Orlando International Airport Friday to look for a service dog in training who got loose while going through security with her trainer.

Volunteers are gathering outside Terminal A to search the grounds around the airport for Scarlet, who has been missing since Thursday.

A $2,000 reward is offered for anyone who finds and returns the dog to her trainer.

The 3-year-old pit bull, wears a vest with “Service dog in training’ written on it.

Her owner, Kaitlyn Wakefield, said a TSA agent ordered her to take the leash off Scarlet, which she was happy to do.

"A separate TSA agent stood in front of the detector and said I would not be able to go unless I took her stuff off of her," Wakefield said.

Scarlet was in Wakefield's arms as she took off the dog's vest.

"As soon as I reached to put it on the belt with her in my left arm, she bolted through the entire airport," Wakefield said. "I had to cancel my entire trip."

Scarlet, a service dog in training got away at OIA Thursday during a TSA search.

Scarlet got scared and ran for the exit. A group of people has been searching for her since she escaped.

"We're not leaving until we find her," said a woman who was helping with the search.

A private investigator went through the airport with sniff dogs on Thursday, but Scarlet's trail went cold.

Orlando airport officials said they are also still looking for the dog, but did not add any extra staff for the search.
