Magic Trade 3 Players For Vince Carter

Orlando Agrees To Send Courtney Lee, Rafer Alston, Tony Battie To New Jersey

The Orlando Magic traded for Vince Carter on Thursday, sending Courtney Lee, Rafer Alston and Tony Battie to the New Jersey Nets.

The Nets also sent Ryan Anderson to the Magic in the trade.

"Vince (Carter) gives us a veteran, go-to scoring presence, especially at the end of games," General Manager Otis Smith said. "Our goal remains the same -- to win a championship. Any time you can add an All-Star to help you reach your goals, you have to do it. Vince has been a bonafide scorer in this league for 11 seasons and we are excited to add both him and Ryan (Anderson) to our team. We thank Rafer, Tony and Courtney for their efforts and wish them success in the future."

Carter attended Mainland High School in Daytona Beach. He has been in the NBA for 11 seasons and played on the 2000 gold medal-winning Olympic team.

The news comes on the same day that the Cleveland Cavaliers traded for Shaquille O'Neal, sending Ben Wallace and Sasha Pavlovic to the Phoenix Suns, along with a second-round pick in the 2010 draft and cash.

Cleveland had the best record in the NBA last season but was ousted in the playoffs by the Magic, who lost to the Los Angeles Lakers in the NBA Finals.
