ORLANDO, Fla. -- The final roof beam of the new home for the Orlando Magic was put in place Thursday morning.
The $380 million Amway Center is scheduled to open next fall in time for the Magic's 2010 season.
Lawmakers signed the final beam before it was secured and placed up in the rafters.
Dyer touted what will soon be the first ever newly built "green arena" in the NBA.
"First one in the country, as far as I know, in terms of an arena or an events center," Orlando Mayor Buddy Dyer said.
The new downtown arena will be able to conserve power and redistribute it more effectively. The arena will even have earth-friendly recycling bins.
Dyer and Orlando Magic Chief Operating Officer Alex Martens know the being green will be the legacy of the arena, and hopefully kick-start a new economic boom.
The arena is publically funded and currently running under budget and on time for completion.
