Army 56, Navy 55
ANNAPOLIS, Md. -- Tilman Dunbar of Navy missed a jumper in the lane at the buzzer and Army held on for a 56-55 victory on Saturday in a Patriot League game before a sold-out Alumni Hall.
The Black Knights (12-13, in the 5-5 Patriot League), had 10 players score and were led by 12 points each from Kyle Wilson and Ella Ellis. Army shot 46 percent (20-of-44) from the field, and rallied from seven-point deficit to gain a split in the season-series.
Worth Smith led the Midshipmen (7-19, 1-9) with 14 points and seven rebounds, while Dunbar added 12 points. The Midshipmen shot 37 percent from the field (16-of-43).
The Midshipmen held a narrow lead for much of the first half, and had a 30-24 advantage at halftime.
In the second half, the Midshipmen continued to hold a slim advantage, pushing the lead to as many as seven points.
However, Navy went cold, going more than nine minutes without a field goal, with the Black Knights taking a 47-46 lead on Wilson's layup with 9:10 left.
Dunbar finally broke the drought and cut the Black Knights' lead to 56-52 with 2:36 remaining.
After being fouled on a 3-point shot, Kendall Knorr of Navy sank three free throws to cut the Black Knights' lead to one with 43 seconds on the clock.
The Black Knights missed two shots on their next possession, and Smith got the rebound for the Midshipmen, who called timeout with 9.5 seconds left to set up Dunbar's last shot.
